Get featured on my blog

Chicago WorkshopOver the past few months I’ve been kicking around ideas for the blog.  It’s been a ton of fun sharing my experiences, thoughts and tips with all of you.  But it wasn’t until I finished the black and white contest that I realize how much I enjoy learning  about you, “the reader”.     One of my favorite features from my home town paper was called  “man on the corner”.  The basic concept was to highlight random people in the community to tell their  story to fellow readers.  Scott Kelby does a similar concept on his blog with his  weekly guest column.    My thoughts are simply this:  once a  month I would highlight one of my readers (Facebook fans, Twitter followers, blog subscribers).  The process would be simple:  I would contact you via email or phone and conduct a brief interview.  You would in turn share insight into yourself and  your passion for photography with our fellow readers via the blog.   How do you get selected?  Darn good question.   You need to drop me a note on my blog (which is here) and first tell me you’re interested and why.   Don’t be shy.  Just leave a comment like, “Hey, John I would love to be featured because photography is what gets me going in the morning” or “Pick me because I love taking pictures”.   Remember to include your website address so that I have a chance to review what you would like to share with our readers.   Keep in mind this isn’t a contest.  Nor am I selecting people randomly.   Selection will be based upon a number of factors, but primarily on what I think my readers, “you folks” might enjoy reading.   Here’s your chance for some “free publicity” so drop me a note. I look forward to hearing from all you folks.

John, great idea. You are so helpful in many ways. You inspire, teach, inform, you ask questions, answer questions, provide wonderful resources and more. Thank you. I recently saw a local article about a young photographer. I think he said he has only been at it for about 8 years and he has talent! His name is Kenton Rowe and he has inspired me, you have inspired me, David duChemin has inspired me. I am 57 and just starting photography. I am immersing myself in manuals, books, great photography, learning about tools and so much more. I am studying the thousands of photos I take in order to learn to be better, different, inspired in photography. In 8 years, I will be 65. In that time, I intend to hike and climb and see all the beautiful scenes and wildlife I can. What makes me happy is to do that and share those sights, in I hope “not ordinary” but “from the heart and great” photos. You are helping me work towards my dream. Thank you.

Hi John, I am from Costa Rica and would be very thankful if you select me. Why? well, first of all, I truly love photography and secondly, even though I am from C.R, I am a relatively new photographer who wants to expand and actually become a destination wedding photographer. I realize there are thousands of photographers but I'm pretty sure I can share my work to many couples outside of my country.
Hope you will pick me and thanks a lot for the opportunity.

Ive had a few People help me here and there but pretty much have just learned from doing and doing again till I get it the way I think works then move on

    Hello Mr Batdorff

Im writing you about your newest blog “get featured on my blog” I would like to tell you why I would like to be part of this to make a very long story short Im 35 and started my “hobby” of photography which turn into a passion right away when I was 18 after finding out I was Bipolar and years of drug use. Which Im now sober for almost a year I have found that passion all over again. That is why I would be very happy to show off my photography.

    Thank you

Exposure, (I'm not gonna lie), that is the reason I would LUV to be featured on your blog. One of the hardest things for a budding artist is to get discovered and receive exposure of their work.

I am interested! I would be honored to be even considered. As you know I am a documentary wedding photographer and I would love to be able to tell more people about my approach. Thank you!

    Thanks for doing this! ;)
Photography is my passion. You can read more about it here: http://seenboxphotography.blogspot.com/2009/10/...

I bought my first SLR in May after gaining the confidence to start a photography business through taking pictures on my food blog, http://www.kitchendoughdough.com. I knew absolutely nothing about photography. It's been an awesome journey that is still going and I'm happier than I've ever been. :)

FYI, I'm working on updating my sites.

    Hi John,

I was made aware of your website through a tweet from Tony Eckersly. Great blog and resource! If you would like to consider me for your feature please visit our blog, where you can also navigate to my flickr stream.

Briefly I concentrated on science from the age of 16 due to the narrow constriction of the British educational system. I only recently realized, after meeting my now wife, that to fully function in life I need an artistic output too. Since then photography has become the right brain balance to my left brain science. I am equally passionate about both.

    Keep up your fantastic work.
    Sincerely,
    Ed

John being a new photographer, I would love to be featured. I discovered photography when I was blessed with some unwanted time off from being a full time college student and working part time. Photography has become my escape and my passion. When I am behind the camera lens all my worries and frustrations seem to disappear. I would love to sit down and talk with you.

  19. bennyjenks says:

I photograph for me and me alone. I don't do this to impress anyone, I enjoy the satisfaction of being outside and being able to photograph whatever I see that appeals to me.I'm never in a rush, I enjoy the moment and never unhappy with a shot. Even with my wildlife photography, if all I shoot is a dragonfly on an off day, I'm thrilled. Like I said I'm only shooting to please myself and enjoy the moment while it's there.

  20. Ed Congdon says:

Thanks for doing this John, what a neat idea! I would love to be included. I started shooting about 25 years ago, but got busy, and have only gotten back into the world of photo within the past couple of years. My “web” is on FaceBook, so you can catch me there.

John, I have loved reading your blog and your uncommon approach to photography, it has made me think more about little details in my photos. I am a great gramma and with a big family I have many subject. My father had a love of photography & when he passed I was the proud receiver of his camera collection, some from the 40's. For some reason my love & his love of photography someway ties us together. I have a dsl & love the ability to catch the moment, the tear, the smile, the emotion. I am not published, but photograph from my heart and others have told me it shows in my photos. I would love this opportunity.

  22. Hey John, I would love to be featured on your blog and discuss marketing mayhem and the senior client. I could also go on about designing custom portrait products for the boutique studio.

Hi John, I'd love to be featured. You can see my work at douglaslevyphotography.com and dougblogs.com. Why pick me? Because I spend far too much time thinking about light. Actual, often conversation with my girlfriend, “Doug, DOUG stop spacing out.” “I'm, I'm not, I was just wondering if I could fit a Justin clamp over there…”

  24. Hello John,
It would be an honor to be featured on your blog. What I lack in experience and portfolio is significantly out-weighed by my overwhelming desire to take pictures and share them with everyone. I've started a business and am working diligently to get it going, while raising 4 wonderful kids and being the best husband and father that I can. Thanks for the opportunity.

A cool idea for a thread – “Person on the Corner”. I would be happy to throw my name in the hat for this project. I have been an avid amateur photog for over 30 years, first starting in B&W film when I was in college and then moving to digital in the early to mid 2000s. The digital medium really allows me more freedom to explore both imaging techniques and post processing techniques as I can get ready access to the work without getting my hands smelly!

Hi I am a fan I love to see everyones photos. I entered a photo contest not really knowing how i would do, I was not sure if it was Batdorff worthy. I am happy to report I am in the top five. I took the picture in BC on a zodiac tour its of a light house. I could use your support as a newbie…..this is my first attempt. I was not sure if it was good enough for this sight so check it out and see and vote for the light house photo. AAA photo contest Cathleen http://www.aaaaz.com/travel/photocontest.htm?zi...

    Hi John,
I would be honored to be featured as a guest photographer/blog topic.

    A little about me:
I decided to quit my job in corporate America over a year ago to be unleashed and travel the country. Last year I did it solo with my dog, Maggie in a teardrop trailer. This year I am currently traveling in a tent with my new dog, Max. We've been on the road since July. I have been taking pictures of where we go and blogging about our experiences.

I would love to show your readers that they don't need an expensive camera to get creative and have some amazing shots. Not that I know what it's like to have an expensive camera, I shoot with a point and click cannon powershot. It's the best since I tend to drop things. This is my 3rd replacement camera on this trip because of my butter fingers. Anyway, that's me in a nutshell.

I would love to tell you more details if you feel that I would be a good selection.
    Best Regards,
    Alison

    John!

Would love to be featured in your blog! My name is Lisa Michael, just a “Newbie” to photography really, but the subject matter I am shooting is quite different from most. I enjoy outdoor photography and specifically shooting sports! Would love to promote my “Side-by-Side Shoot” documenting a day in the field. I am a mother of three with a Fashion Degree and Former Career with Saks Fifth Avenue. Moved from Long Island NY (born and raised) to Raleigh NC four years ago. I am a licensed hunter and avid shooting sportsman myself, so I can legally follow someone on their outting!

My images have been featured in the Raleigh City Museum as part of a group photography exhibit, and although my website is under construction I'm sure you can gain a feel for what I would like to pursue! http://www.lisamichael.com My hope is to get other women involved in outdoor shooting sports, so they can make and enjoy the moments my family has! Thanks for considering my work!
    Be Well,

    Hi John,
My name is Mara Paul and I would love to be a guest photographer on your Blog. I am not a professional by far but think that I have a pretty good eye and I am always taking pictures to practice. Photography has always been a passion for me and it is a way to nurture my creative side. I am a preschool teacher and I am always taking the kids pictures and I have offered my services for a fee of a Dvd to put them on because some of my parents cannot afford to have their kids pictures taken professionally. It brings them so much joy to be able to have those one of a kind action shots of their kids. My goal is to be a photographer for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep to provide parents of critically ill infants beautiful pictures of their children as I was once in that situation. Your photography is amazing and I have learned already from you and your followers. Thank you for your time.

    Hi John
I would be happy to be considered as a guest photog for your 'photog on the corner' feature. My route and interest as a photog is as an avid amateur that generally participates in on line photo challenges etc.

Count me In :) Why? Because I think it's a great idea, and also, because I think we tend to ignore the places that in this day and age are pretty much on our doorstep. Not seeing the wood for the trees is a cliche that comes to mind, but beauty and culture are all around us if we open our eyes. You don't need to travel 10 000 miles to find it. http://www.ianfurniss.myzen.co.uk/

  37. Although I seem to be a tad bit behind the other 39 photographers who commented on this post, I’d like to sign up to take part in the fun too! My husband and I are the photographers behind T2 Photography, and we’d like to be featured on your blog because we’re relatively new in the pro photography game, but we think new is a good thing. We’re trying to make things fresh, and we tend to break rules, but we love our clients, and we’ve gotten some great feedback so far. We’d love to hear what you and your photographer followers think about what we do and how we do it. Thanks for giving us a look! We hope to hear back from you soon!
