One of the things I love about Montana is weather. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s a well documented fact (amongst my closest friends) that I enjoy extremes. The weather in Montana is less than predictable, especially if you’re near a mountain range. I’ve heard the following saying a million times, but I truly believe it’s applicable to Montana. “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes and it will change.” Clouds can make for a dramatic landscape shot, so when the weather appears to be changing for the worst, I’ll grab my camera and take full advantage of the moment. On the flip-side, one of my favorite shots (possibly a little cliche, but who cares) is when the weather is on the cusp of breaking and the sun is searching through the clouds for its grand escape. Of course, everyone knows this is the best time to shoot rainbows. Although, I don’t have any good rainbow shots, yet. Today’s photos is of Hebgen Lake near West Yellowstone, Montana.

Well I came over because of the “cloud” thing. You know already I’m a big fan as well. My best pics feature them, in my opinion. Okay, so I get here and see Hebgen Lake! I’ve never fished the lake, but have fished all around the area – one of my favorite flyfishing locations near there is The Beaver Creek Ponds. Also love fishing the run of browns from Hebgen Lake into the Madison. And Mile Marker 23 north of West Yellowstone. Sigh. Thanks for reigniting wonderful memories. And now I must go to Montana soon! Are you familiar with the area around Big Sky? Great restaurant at the Best Western there called Buck’s T-4 Lodge.
Hebgen is a wonderful lake. I haven’t been to Buck’s T-4 Lodge but next time I’m in Big Sky I’ll check it out.
